Niger Govt Orders immediate Closure of Public Secondary Schools


The Government of Niger state has ordered the immediate closure of all public schools in the state for 2 weeks.

Gistmeblog247 can confirm on Thursday by the state commissioner of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu. She stated that the decision was reached between the state government and officials from various security agencies in the state.

She said the schools will be closed from Friday, 12th March to Friday, 26th March 2021.

The state Education Ministry had earlier held an emergency consultative meeting with the leadership of Association of the Proprietors of Private Schools (NAAPS), Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), Executive Chairman, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board(NSUBEB), Heads of Education Agencies and other stakeholders of the education sector in the state.

The commissioner added that though 22 secondary schools has been closed earlier, the 2 weeks closure of all secondary schools was necessary to give relevant security agencies the time and opportunity to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of all public secondary schools.

While commending parents, education actors and communities for their understanding, patience and support in this trying times, the commissioner reiterated the government’s commiti to leave no stone unturned and ensure that schools are safe fore effective learning
